Field projects¶

fAIr's training data is created and validated in the field by community mappers, through two programs: Open Mapping Gurus and fAIrSwipe. The sections below track the active projects.

Open Mapping Gurus¶

Facilitated by HOT regional hubs (WNA: West and Northern Africa; ESA: Eastern and Southern Africa; LAC: Latin America and the Caribbean; AP: Asia-Pacific). Status as of 9 September 2026.

fAIrSwipe field projects¶

fAIrSwipe connects MapSwipe to fAIr through two kinds of project:

LOCATE: create training data for a model through crowdsourced swiping.
Validate: check a model's predictions through crowdsourced swiping.

Both are organized through the open fAIrSwipe community call. Individual projects are listed here as they are compiled.
